Rabat – The Moroccan agency for Tourism Development (SMIT) announced the first annual conference of “Smart Tourism Africa” under the theme: “tourism investment in Africa, an inclusive and sustainable tool to develop territory competitiveness.“

The conference will be held between November 10-11 in Marrakech and will coincide with the UN Climate Change conference COP22 that will take place on November 7-18.

The event has been certified by the committee of COP22 and will address three main issues: Tourism investment, sustainability, and the digital revolution in Africa.

There will be 40 international members who will discuss aspects of world tourism as well as changes in investment due to climate change and digitalization. Several panelists have already announced their participation, including Jean-Louis Chaussade, CEO of Suez (France), Carlota Matteos, CEO of Rusticae (Spain), Miguel Azevedo, Head of African Investment Banking for Citibank, as well as several others.

The aims of this conference coincide with many of the issues also being discussed at COP22. Creators of the Smart Tourism Africa conference believe that many who come to observe the COP22 will find the events of their conference both interesting and informative. Specifically, the overlap on how to sustainably grow tourism in Africa should prove to entice audiences from COP22.

The conference will also be attended by Brice Lalonde, President of the Business Climate Summit, Khalifa Sall, Mayor of Dakar, and Ould-Abdallah, head of C4S.

Also in attendance will be several economic experts and previous prime ministers. The previous prime ministers of Benin, Mali, and Guinee, Lionel Zinsou, Moussa Mara, and Kabine Komara will also make an appearance at the conference. They will share their ideas concerning investment and development of the tourism industry.
