Rabat – King Mohammed VI has given His High Instructions to the Interior Minister to visit Sunday Al Hoceima to offer the Sovereign’s condolences to the family of Mouhcine Fikri, who passed away Friday, the Interior Ministry said.
“The Interior Minister informed Mouhcine Fikri’s family of the High Royal Instructions for conducting a careful and thorough investigation and bringing charges against whoever held responsible in this incident, with strict application of law to all, as a warning to anyone who would fail to fulfill his tasks and duties,” the ministry added in a statement.
The Moroccan monarch’s move comes amid the uproar that the death of the fish seller created throughout Morocco since Friday night.
Pictures and videos of the victim were shared widely on social media by hundreds of thousands of Moroccans, who voiced their anger at the government’s silence and expressed their sympathy with the deceased and his family.
While Moroccans were expecting the head of government, Abdelilah Benkirane, to interact with them and echo their concerns, he issued a statement in which he called on his party’s supporters to refrain from participating in any protests regarding the tragic death of Mouhcine Fikri.
