Rabat – After two long years of hard work, The M’dina Bus, Casablanca’s company of transport services, announced the success of its mission of developing the first ever electric bus in Morocco.
The announcement took place yesterday through a press release explaining that the project, which occurred in the company’s own workshops, transformed a bus with a classic engine into a 100% electric bus naming it “MdinaEbus”.
” ‘MdinaEbus’ is a prototype of a 100% percent electric bus, designed and completed, (engine, internal, and external structure), inside the company’s workshops while depending on its own human resources,” the M’dina Bus stated.
Coinciding with COP22, which is currently being held in Marrakesh, the MdinaEbus guarantees zero Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions.
In addition, the MdinaEbus consists of a synchronous electric motor with a capacity of 200 kWh equivalent to 240 horsepower diesel, which is the current engine power of urban buses. A modulator drive has also been designed to convert energy to AC energy and control the speed variations of the engine along with the feature of two lead-acid batteries sufficient to cross a distance between 250 and 300 Kilometers.
To top it off, the MdinaEbus’s motor is also able to adapt to different models of buses offering by that an efficient economic solution through which any fuel run bus can be converted to a 100% electric one.
While M’dina Bus’s new electric invention is ready and complete, their creative team is still in the middle of designing and developing a unique charger with a stronger capacity and faster charging period.
