Madrid – Morocco is a “pioneer” country in Africa in regularizing undocumented migrants, the Spanish daily “El Pais” said in an article dedicated to the launch of the second stage of the integration of illegal migrants.
During the first stage of this operation, launched in 2014, 25,000 migrants regularized their situation in the largest operation in the continent, the Iberian daily reported.
Thousands of migrants, especially sub-Saharan migrants, want to regularize their situation in Morocco rather than attempt to migrate clandestinely to Europe, El Pais noted.
Quoted by the daily, President of the Kirikou Association, Senegalese Diop Mountaga, expressed his deep gratitude to HM King Mohammed VI for giving His high instructions for the immediate launch of the second phase of the integration of migrants in an irregular situation.
“Morocco’s migration policy is better than those of its neighbors and even those of some European countries”, he told El Pais.
