Rabat – A video has gone viral on social media showing the President of the “Besma Association for Autistic People,” beating his autistic sister in the Rabia al-Adawiyya school yard in Taroudant.
The video has sparked outrage amongst Moroccans, who have condemned “the violent behavior” of the president with his sister, describing it as “cruel.”
Activist and autism therapist, Imane Haddouch, said, “The president’s behavior is criminal and he should be punished for his actions. His punishment will serve as an example to others who commit similar crimes that they too will be punished for carrying out such acts on autistic children who are unable to talk about the abuse they face.”
The student who was assaulted on Friday is in an advanced state of autism and cannot speak, according to a source from the school that spoke to CNN Arabic. That morning, the child was struggling to handle the mental effects of autism and had refused to enter the classroom – opting to stay outdoors instead.
The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Education in Taroudant announced last Saturday, that “it is going to deal severely with this non-pedagogical behavior and deepen its investigation into this case and take the necessary measures against anyone who dares to commit such atrocious behavior.”
