Rabat – The Institut Français is launching famous designer Hicham Lahlou’s newest exhibition “Out of the Box” December 15th at its Delacroix Gallery in Tangier.

The Franco-Moroccan artist is a renowned figure in the world of architecture and design with two decades of experience in the design of cities, brand identities, urban furniture, tableware, commercial architecture, as well as graphic and strategic design.

Lahlou is designer, interior designer, artist and plastic artist all in one person and has created collections for prestigious international brands, making headlines not only in Africa and the Arab world but also Europe and Asia.

The Out of the Box exhibition will reveal exclusive and completely unexpected artwork created from reinterpreted heritage objects. Casting their original utility aside, the artist rediscovered his exhibited material, turning it into unique pieces of artwork and design.

The highly anticipated exhibition promises a wide variety of unique creations and pieces. In fact, the designer is claimed to have never produced as many works of contemporary art all at once.

Emblematic Lahlou, who claimed the title of “spearhead of contemporary design” in Morocco, is known for his atypical artwork which always embodies cultural and identity references with a modern touch.

“When conformism is not required, creativity is expressed more freely.” Lahlou said describing his newest exposition, highlighting that it will deliver a series of free and independent creations.

Shortly after its last day in Tangier, on the 31st of January, Lahlou’s exhibition will continue through a new version in Tetuan, from March 10- May 6 of 2017. After being showcased at the Tetuan’s Centre d’Art Moderne, the exhibit will be exported overseas for display in France.

Being a visionary who defends the values of progress and takes actions with the aim of promoting the values of design and creation, Lahlou has headed several projects and chaired many competitions for the encouragement of young talent, especially in Africa and the Arab world.

Hicham Lahlou’s contributions of remarkable artistry and achievements meriting national recognition and international awards are boundless. It is certain, however, that the universe of the creator testifies to a spectacularly unusual vision and an artistic approach which treads far off the beaten track, all now best evident in the excellence demonstrated in Out Of The Box.
