Rabat – Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan are reportedly set to arrive in Morocco in the near future to resume the shooting of their next feature-length film “Raees.”

The two actors will make their way to Morocco after one of Raees’ music videos in Abu Dhabi has been completed, according to Indian local media.

The same sources have noted that the Raees’ team will head to Morocco following the controversial ban on Pakistani artists entering Indian territory because of attacks on September 18th of this year in the garrison town of Uri, about 102 km from Kashmir.

“There were two options for the Raees producers. They could either scrap Mahira’s role completely and shoot with another leading lady. This option was almost exercised when there was an unofficial ban on Pakistani artistes in Mumbai. A few newcomers were auditioned to co-star with Shah Rukh Khan. But then the Raees makers felt that re-shooting would entail huge expenses as Shah Rukh’s scenes with his leading lady were mostly set in chawls and crowded bazaars of Gujarat,” revealed a well-informed source quoted by Indian media.

Directed by Indian filmmaker, Rahul Dholakia, Raees is set in 1980. It tells the story of real life character, Abdul Latif, who became a bootlegger. He then immersed himself in crime, politics and terrorism by breaching smugglers, criminals, politicians and policemen, who contributed to the rise of his illegal business.

This is not the first time that Shah Rukh Khan has visited Morocco. Back in 2012, he participated in the   Marrakech International Film Festival. In 2013, he returned to film an advertisement for Morocco’s estate company Espaces Saada.

Raees is set to be officially released on January 25, 2017.
