Rabat – Moroccan photographers come together in a photography contest entitled “Moroccan Shots.”

The contest is organized under the administration of Sophia Elbahja, a young Moroccan photographer, and is taking place from January 13 to 29.

With the assistance of Walid Machrouh and Boutaina Chabbaki, Elbahja took the initiative to organize a virtual photography contest open for both professional and amateur Moroccan photographers.

The contest serves two purposes:

First, it seeks to illustrate the rich talent of Moroccan photographers and to create a space in which visual artists could come together.

Second, it intends to bring the Moroccan public closer to the culture of photography, providing a chance for to admire and share the works of the participants.

The contest was well received by aspiring photographers, as over 80 photographs were submitted to enter the competition.

“The participants and the Moroccan public loved the idea of a photography contest, and I’ve received positive feedback about it,” said Elbahja, adding that “Art cannot be judged, yet I believe that the organization of the contest is a great step towards building an artistic community in Morocco.”

28 photographs, preselected on the basis of skill and talent, are now featured on Elbahja’s Facebook page, where users post comments and vote for their favorites.

The winning photographer will receive media exposure, and will be given a chance to increase their popularity among the Moroccan community.

The contest’s founder hopes to continue to organize the contest on an annual basis as she believes that Moroccan photographers have much to offer.
