Casablanca — Several countries, of which Morocco is one, is at risk of experiencing terrorist attacks reminiscent of those in Berlin and Nice in the coming days, warns the CIA.
Moroccan daily, Assabah, discussed the CIA warning in it’s January 5th edition, noting that the CIA has warned Morocco specifically that Daech may have instructed its militant members to return to their home countries for the purpose of organizing truck attacks and targeting crowds at important, well-populated events.
The militants targeted in the Daech chatter they’ve monitored, says the CIA, recently escaped from Mosul, Iraq and Al-Raqqa, Syria. Assabah is also confirming, with the use of UN numbers, that approximately 30% of ISIS militants successfully returned to their home countries and speculates that the Istanbul terror attack last Saturday night was a way for ISIS to distract other countries from the coming attacks.
According to the CIA intel involved in this briefing, Moroccan authorities have been warned that tourist attractions and state buildings are at particular risk of an attack driven by Daech.
To date, Morocco has been ruthless in its efforts in combatting terrorism. In 2016, at least 19 terrorist cells were dismantled, most of them ISIS affiliated.
The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) and the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), have been extremely effective in containing the threat that terrorism poses to Morocco and abroad.
