Rabat – Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) has confiscated a explosives and a number of weapons, during the dismantling operation of a terrorist cell linked to the so-called Islamic State (IS).
The Ministry of Interior said in a communiqué on Friday that BCIJ agents tracked down an arsenal of war in El Jadida, Salé, El Gara, Boualaouane and Douar Maatallah.
The weapons cache includes several firearms, a submachine gun with night vision goggles, seven pistols, a large quantity of bullets and shells, four large knives, two walkie-talkies, military pants, telescopic batons and chemical weapons.
Seven members have been arrested so far. According to the ministry, the cell was planning to carry out large-scale terrorist attacks in Morocco,.
The dismantling operation was conducted under the supervision of Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
