Addis Ababa – Chadian Moussa Faki Mahamat was elected, on Monday, chairman of the African Union (AU) commission, replacing South African Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
Moussa Faki Mahamat beat Kenyan candidate Amina Mohamed in the final round.
The chairman of the commission is elected for a four-year term, renewable once.
The commission is the secretariat of the AU and was established under Article 5 of the Union’s Constitution.
It is composed of the chairman, the vice-chairman and eight commissioners.
