Rabat – Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower house), El Habib El Malki, held talks here on Wednesday with British ambassador to Morocco, Karen Betts.

Talks focused on the means to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, a statement from the lower house said, adding that El Malki called for the promotion of bilateral relations in all areas.

El Malki stressed that the return of Morocco to the African Union (AU) is an opportunity to develop economic cooperation between the two countries, as Morocco has become a platform for access to African markets.

At the parliamentary level, speaker of the House of Representatives highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening dialogue, understanding and exchange of views between the representatives of the Moroccan and British peoples.

He also hailed cooperation between the House of Representatives and the British Parliament through the partnership agreement with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.

In her turn, Betts congratulated Morocco on its return to the AU, noting the great potential for the development of economic relations between her country and Morocco.

Morocco is considered as a great tourist destination in the United Kingdom, she said, adding that the Kingdom is a model of security and stability at the regional and continental levels.

The two sides agreed on an action plan to promote Moroccan-British parliamentary relations in 2017, the statement said.
