Seven Prisoners Escape from Youth Detention in Salé Prison

Rabat – Seven prisoners in juvenile detention escaped from Salé 1 Prison on Sunday, according to a communique issued by the General Commission for the Management of Prisons and Reintegration.

The Commission said that the prisoners pretended to fight among themselves in order to attract the prison guards. When one of the guardians attempted to intervene, they assaulted him, taking the keys from him before attacking the other guardians to seize the rest of the keys.

The guardians were immediately moved to the hospital to receive medical treatment, according to the communiqué, with one of them in serious condition. One of the seven prison inmates has been arrested, while the search for the others is still ongoing.

The Commission said that as soon as it was informed about the incident it recruited a central committee to conduct an administrative investigation into causes and the circumstances of the incident, noting that the department of the prison has also told the Public Prosecutor to open an investigation.
