Rabat – King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Côte d’Ivoire’s Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly, inaugurated the Mohammed VI Emergency Medicine Training Center, on Wednesday.
The facility is located in the University Hospital Center of Yopougon in Abidjan.
The first of its kind in the country, the center offers practical training in emergency medicine for the benefit of emergency physicians in Côte d’Ivoire’s university hospital centers, as well as first aid workers and health auxiliaries. It boasts modern equipment and material meeting international standards. The facility was equipped by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development.
It also includes rooms for Adult/Mother and Child simulation, lab works and multimedia control. Courses and evaluations are being offered with the possibility of being broadcast in real time. This will be immensely beneficial with regard to sharing lab works and ongoing simulations in other rooms with a larger audience. There is also an area for teachers.
The center has a yearly training capacity of 75 emergency physicians and 120 first aid workers and health auxiliaries. It will be managed through a partnership between the Marrakech Mohammed VI University Hospital Center and the Ivorian Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene.
An agreement was signed between the Marrakech Mohammed VI University Hospital Center and the Yopougon University Hospital Center on March 1 regarding capacity-building of the hospital staff in terms of quality and risk management.
King Mohammed VI also checked on the progress of the erection of a vocational training complex for construction, civil engineering and tourism jobs. The project was launched by the sovereign in June 2015 in the Yopougon commune.
The project, which reached an implementation rate of 45%, seeks to provide the building, civil engineering and tourism sectors, as well as the hotel and catering industry, with qualified human resources. It also hopes to reinforce the employment of youth and promote their social and professional integration. As well it will support large-scale socio-economic development projects initiated in Côte d’Ivoire.
The future complex, valued at MAD 70 million, will offer training in 12 specialties related to the building and civil engineering sector and 9 specialties in the tourism sector. Upon its completion, it is expected to host up to 1,000 trainees.
