Rabat – At around 7am today, 15 people blocked the tramway at Hay Mohmmadi in Casablanca, in protest of the new schedule for Ramadan.
The actions this morning stopped traffic in both directions, meaning that trams were delayed for two hours and tens of thousands of commuters were affected.
Police later removed the protesters, and trams resumed their service at 9am.
Casa Tram strongly condemned the behaviour of the protesters in a statement to H24info, saying the actions of protesters were “an inadmissible hindrance to the good functioning of the tramway and threatened the physical safety of numerous people.”
Casablanca’s trams have followed Ramadan-specific schedules since 2013, just like all other TCSP networks across Morocco.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the first trams in Casablanca leave at 6.30am instead of 5.30am, and trams stop for one hour during the Iftar.
