Rabat – The Secretariat of State for Sustainable Development has confirmed that Mohammadia’s Miramar beach has been polluted by a blackish liquid discharge coming from Mohammadia’s thermal power station.
The Secretariat sent an environmental police team to the beach after a video made the frontlines on social media. It showedblack spots in an area covering ??more than 4,000 m2 in the western part of the Miramar beach near the port.
Environmental police have taken samples to determine the nature and composition of the black matter mixed with the sand.
A joint provincial commission moved to the thermal power station and to Mohammadia’s Miramar beach to carry out further investigations on May 15.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development has set up a commission consisting of the Department of Energy, the Sustainable Development Department and the National Office for Water and Electricity to monitor the progress of the case and to determine appropriate and sustainable solutions.
