Rabat – Maroc Export is organizing a business-to-business mission until May 5 in Abidjan to benefit the Ivorian chemistry sector.
This mission, held in partnership with the Federation of Chemistry and Parachemistry, aims to strengthen and develop exports of this sector on the Ivorian market. It will feature a workshop on the Côte d’Ivoire market, followed by BtoB meetings and visits to sites for the benefit of a dozen participating Moroccan companies, according to a statement from Morocco Export.
“The chemistry-parachemical industry is a must for African economies and can offer a good prospect given the enormity of the African market (1.216 billion inhabitants in 2016), but also and especially the under-exploitation of the sector in comparison with its potential,” reads the statement, adding that in Côte d’Ivoire, the sector of chemistry includes several sectors, including cosmetics, petroleum products, paint, fertilizers, solvents, products maintenance, etc.
According to a survey run by the ITC (International Trade Center), chemicals accounted for more than one-third of exports (37%) and imports (35%) of the manufacturing sector, demonstrating the importance of this sector for the Ivorian economy, reports Morocco Export.
On December 17, 2015, two performance contracts were concluded between the ministries in charge of Industry, Finance and the Federation of Chemistry and Para-Chemistry to accompany the deployment of two ecosystems structured to date in the Green chemistry and organic chemistry sectors, recalls the same source.
These first two ecosystems, which do not include the activities of the Cherifien Company of Phosphates (OCP), will contribute by 2020 to create 12,430 new direct stable jobs and 20,570 indirect jobs, generate an additional turnover of MAD 14.6 billion, an additional added value of MAD 3.8 billion and an additional export turnover of MAD 9.8 billion dirhams, Maroc Export adds.
