Rabat – Slimane El Amrani, Deputy Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), said on Sunday that the PJD is experiencing a difficult period in its history, but that this does not spell the end of the party.

He explained that former government head Abdelilah Benkirane’s failure to form a coalition was “extremely difficult.”

While talking during a training for PJD’s regional council members, El Amrani said that the PJD had conceded considerably during Benkirane’s negotiations with party leaders, trying to focus on the public interest more than that of the party.

“After the release of the royal cabinet’s communiqué on March 15, the Secretariat General convened. There were two options. We chose finally to positively react to the communiqué,” he added.

El Amrani stressed that the party is unified despite going through a difficult period.

“The members of the party views the unity the party as a red line,” he continued. “They may disagree but ultimately this cannot compromise the unity of the PJD.”

El Amrani added that the party nowadays is experiencing an anxious situation, but he urged PJD members to keep faith and trust its ministers.

He said that the PJD’s approach is based on trust, and that treason cannot be accepted.

“If the party’s members give up this approach, they will no longer be available for anything, neither for society, nor for the party,” he added.
