Rabat – Head of Government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, has urged ministers to meet the expectations of Moroccans.
During a meeting of the Government Council on Thursday, El Othmani exhorted his ministers to increase cooperation and coordination to finish projects the government is committed to realizing in different regions of the country.
El Othmani insisted that ministers present a good image on behalf of the government’s work and said communication between departments should be smooth.
He also announced that a special unit has been created, led by the Government Presidency, to oversee the realization of the different scheduled programs and projects all over the kingdom.
“Citizens have a lot to ask from the government. We should meet their demands,” he said.
As the tense situation in Al Hoceima, in the historically restive Rif region, continues, El Othmani announced that an inter-ministerial meeting will be held regularly to follow up on the realization of the MAD 6.515 billion “Al HoceimaManarat al Motawasit”mega project.
Launched by King Mohammed VI in October in 2016, a year before protests started in the city and its surrounding areas, the project aims to boost the area’s infrastructure, promote tourism and provide the region with healthcare and cultural facilities.
The government is hoping that speeding up the realization of the projects will help calm down the situation in the Rif.
This might prove unsuccessful, however, as the government is negatively seen by the local population, primarily for the continuing detention of 93 activists from the protest movement,Hirak.
The government’s heavy-handed management of the crisis, with the large deployment of security forcesin the region in an attempt to contain demonstrations by forces, has only seemed to result in clashes with protesters.
