Rabat – On Eid Al Fitr, which will be celebrated in Morocco on Monday, King Mohammed VI has pardoned 562 convicts, not including the dozen detained Rif protestors.
Royal pardons have become tradition during religious and major national celebrations, granting absolution to a number of prisoners.
According to a to a statement released by the Ministry of Justice on Saturday evening, the detained beneficiaries involved in the King’s Eid Al Fitr pardon number 374 and include:
- 8 inmates who had their remaining sentences forgiven.
- 356 prisoners who had their prison terms reduced.
- 10 inmates whose life sentences were commuted to limited prison terms.
The pardon also included 188 free beneficiaries:
- 40 prisoners who had their prison term pardoned.
- 4 inmates whose prison terms were forgiven, while upholding their fines.
- 6 inmates who prison terms and fines were both pardoned.
- 138 inmates who had their fines annulled.
