Rabat – Moroccan-Dutch Ajax footballer, Abdelhak Nouri is now out of intensive care almost three weeks after he collapsed in friendly game in Austria.
Ajax announced that the 20-year-old talent can now breath on his own.
“Nouri is no longer in an induced coma and has full respiratory functions,” said the Dutch club in a statement.
Still, the club stated that his overall situation remains unchanged.
Nouri, affectionately called “Appie” by his club’s fans, suffered a brain damage following his collapse in afriendly game between Ajax German team Werder Bremen on July 8.
The sad news shattered his family and his club. Ajax fans gathered in large numbers in a heart-melting scene in front of the family’s house to show their support.
Several football stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, and Robin van Persie addressed messages of support of the young player.
His father, a devoted Muslim, said previously that family is hopeful their son will get better, adding that the Quran is their solace in those hard times.
“This a test from Allah,” he told Bein Sports. “To overcome this, we resort to invoking Allah, patience, and prayers.”
“What happened, this what Allah has decreed on us. We have accepted it with patience. What I ask of people is to pray for him,” he said.
