Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will soon announce Morocco as the official host of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, according to beIN Sports Algerian Commentator Hafid Derradji.
Talking on Facebook, the Algerian public figure congratulated on Tuesday Morocco for being elected as the host of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation instead of Cameroon.
Derradji added that Morocco will also host the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
“A thousand congratulations to Morocco,” wrote Derradji.
The journalist added sarcastically, “The Algerian president of the Football Federation, [Khierdine Zetchi] announced days ago that Algeria is ready to replace Cameroon […] Good morning.”
Earlier this month, Fouzi Lekjaa, the newly appointed third vice president of the CAF, stated that Morocco is ready to replace Cameroon as the host of the 2019 African Cup of nations, in case the latter is unable to hold it due to “lack of capacity.”
Cameroon has been “experiencing delays in the execution of various Nations Cup infrastructural projects,” according to sports platform Inside World Football.
Morocco has recently hosted two prominent football events, the African Football Symposium and the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly, attended by CAF president Ahmad Ahmad and FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The events were designed to discuss the future of African football.
