Rabat – A tremor registering 4.5 on the Richter scale occurred in the province of Figuig early Wednesday morning.
The National Institute of Geophysics said that the tremor was recorded at 4:27 a.m. The centre of the quake was located at Maatarka, a rural commune in Figuig on the border with Algeria in north-eastern Morocco.
The Richter scale ranges between ‘Micro’ (1.0), to ‘Great’ (above 9.0). Tremors with magnitudes of 4.0-4.9 are considered ‘light’, with an obvious shaking of objects indoors.
