Rabat - King Mohammed VI has asked the Moroccan government to strengthen the already-strong security cooperation between Morocco and Spain.
Rabat – King Mohammed VI has asked the Moroccan government to strengthen the already-strong security cooperation between Morocco and Spain.
The announcement was made on Thursday during the weekly government council meeting.
The King’s instructions come a week after the Barcelona terrorist attack, which saw 15 people killed in an operation that was planned and conducted by a group of Moroccans. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The spokesperson of the government, Mustapha El Khalfi said in a statement carried by Le360 news website that “the security services of our country have mobilized to carry out all the necessary investigations in the framework of the bilateral cooperation that links Morocco To Spain, in accordance with the high instructions of King Mohammed VI. “
The Moroccan government said that local security services “remain mobilized in order to conduct all the necessary investigations” about the case.
The Head of Government Saad Eddine El Othmani condemned the terrorist attack, expressing Morocco’s condolences to and solidarity with Spain.
The government affirmed that the kingdom is keen on maintaining its commitment to the “exemplary” cooperation with its Spanish neighbor on the matter of terrorism.
“There has been good security coordination with Spain, and it will continue,” said the government spokesperson Mustapaha El Khalfi in a press conference.
He added that “combatting transitional crime requires the strengthening of security cooperation and coordination.”
“Countering terrorism is not a local cause, and this is why the relationship between Morocco and Spain is exemplary in the region,” he added.
