Rabat – As Morocco sees increased tensions following the bus sexual assault incident in Casablanca, the Constitutional Union (UC) and the National Rally of Independents Parties (UC) have called Abdelouafi Laftit Minister of Interior to provide explanations for the attack.
The UC and RNI addressed a letter to Lahbib El Malki, president of the House of Representatives, calling for an urgent accountability session to discuss the absence of security in the kingdom’s public transportation.
The parties also called the authorities in charge of the interior department, including Laftit to attend the accountability session at the House of Representatives. The requested meeting’s date has not yet been scheduled.
On August 20, a video of a young girl being violently sexually harassed by a group of teenagers in a bus was widely shared on social media.
The incident led Moroccan citizens to stand against and denounce rape, sexual assault, and harassment crimes. In protests and in social media, Moroccans called on the authorities to find solutions to fight against sexual and violent crimes.
Two sit-ins were organized earlier this week in Casablanca and Rabat in support of the victim of the bus sexual assault.
Launched by a group of Moroccan young feminists, hundreds of citizens came to the demonstration to join in denouncing rape and sexual harassment in Morocco.
