Rabat – The Moroccan embassy in Australia celebrated the 18th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the throne on Monday, July 31 at the Albert Hall in Canberra.
The ceremony was attended by about 300 people, including members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the governments, researchers, businesspeople, journalists, and members of the Moroccan community in Australia.
In a speech to the attendees, Moroccan ambassador Karim Medrek highlighted the kingdom’s initiatives in to foster South-South cooperation.
In addition to Morocco’s work in forming economic and diplomatic partnerships with the Gulf Cooperation Council and within the continent of Africa, Medrek pointed out that the kingdom seeks to solidify its relations with Pacific Island countries.
The ambassador said that Morocco, after chairing the COP22 environmental conference in Marrakech in 2016, is working to realize the goals of the Paris Agreement as well as those of the Second Forum between the kingdom and Pacific Island countries in 2015.
Medrek praised Morocco-Australia relations, adding that the embassy seeks to deepen the cooperation between the two countries, expanding beyond trade to open up space for various kinds of investments.
In addition to the ambassador’s speech, the ceremony featured a fashion show of traditional Moroccan clothing, a Moroccan trivia game, a musical performance, and a meal of various kinds of Moroccan food.
