Rabat - Marrakech’s Cadi Ayyad University (UCA) once again ranked top among higher institutions in Morocco, Maghreb and French-speaking African countries, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018.
Rabat – Marrakech’s Cadi Ayyad University (UCA) once again ranked top among higher institutions in Morocco, Maghreb and French-speaking African countries, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018.
UCA is among the best universities in the world, among the top five percent of all the 20,000 ranked higher education institutions, according to a press release issued by the university.
The British magazine, Times Higher Education, evaluates the world’s universities based on 13 strict performance criteria related to their fundamental missions, including research, international standards and the transfer of knowledge.
UCA’s success in large part is attributable to it being a dynamic research institute and a growing number of researchers who have been cited in many prestigious international journals, according to the statement.
The university’s scientific research strategy, initiated in 2011,is to improve research structures within international and multidisciplinary scientific communities, encourage the mobility of researchers and promote an international openness through reflecting its clear vision for research and innovation.
The university’s Marrakech City of Innovation project will allow the university to assert its excellence even more as a source of innovation. “This structure will house the research centers of several laboratories in order to showcase significant results” and provide a platform for heavy equipment which may be of interest to manufacturers.
The university’s latest discovery in February was a system of seven Exo-planets (earth-like planets), of which at least three may be sustainable of life. The discovery was conducted by the U.S. Space Agency (NASA) with the participation of Cadi Ayyad’s Astronomical Observatory team.
“The challenge now is to sustain the project over the long term and to continue this positive dynamic in order to achieve an even more efficient research system,” said the University. “This will enable the university to contribute to the development of scientific knowledge, and reflect favorably not only on Morocco, but on Africa and worldwide.”
In August Cadi Ayyad University was ranked among the top 100 universities in the Arab world with respect to global web performance, according to Webometrics 2017 international ranking of universities.
