Rabat – An unidentified individual drove their car into a crowd in Al-Dakhla Street in Al-Masirah district of Marrakech on Sunday evening, injuring 11 people, said local authorities.

The injured passengers were taken to Ibn Tufail Hospital, and most have left after receiving necessary treatment.

Foreign tourists were among the injured, one of whom is believed to have died in the hospital, reported local news outlet Rue20.com.

According to initial investigations, the driver, who was in an “abnormal state,” was driving at a high speed. They ran into the crowd after losing control of the vehicle and subsequently fled.

The security services opened an investigation into the incident. The arrest of the person responsible for the hit-and-run has now been given “great importance,” said the news outlet, and the vehicle they were driving has been identified by the police.
