Rabat – The Moroccan Interprofessional Federation of the Poultry Sector (FISA) has refuted claims that carcinogenic substances had been found in Morocco’s poultry farms.
Earlier this month, Moroccan media outlets claimed that the National Office for the Sanitary Security of Food Products (ONSSA) had carried out health checks on poultry feed in the country suspected of being carcinogenic.
According to the newspaper Assabah, some of the poultry feed that Morocco imports from other countries contained cancer-causing arsenic. FISA comprehensively denied the story.
“Morocco does not make any imports of poultry feed. All its needs and requirements are being met and fulfilled by its local productions,” the organization wrote in a press release.
“Parts of the kingdom’s production are being even exported to other countries,” FISA added.
The installed production capacity consists of 6.5 million tons of feed for a local market of 4.2 million tons, according to the association.
“The Moroccan market is therefore very competitive, which prevents the possibilities of monopoly and speculations,” explained FISA.
