Rabat – A Syrian man warmed the hearts of many after a video of him performing the Muslim call to prayer (Adhan) in the emblematic Alhambra Place in Granada.Â
Mouaz Al Nass was filmed as he called Muslims for prayers with his beautiful and captivating voice at the Alhambra Palace in Granada (Spain).
The video was posted on his official Facebook account on September 7, and was shared more than 21,892 times by international media outlets and social network users.
Many social network users were pleased and fascinated by both Mouaz’s reciting and the unexplainable spiritual moment that flooded the place when the call for prayer began.
Alhambra is the legendary 14th-century palace in Granada. Muslims called the Moors then, have built the palace in the mid-13th century. Muslims arrived in Spain in 711 and ruled the country for 781 years.
Following the defeat of Muslims in Granada in January 1492 in what is Spanish literature calls as the “Reconquista”, the Muslim population of Granada was forced to convert to Christianity.
By 1501 Spanish authorities issued an edict according to which there was no Muslims living in Spain, known as Moriscos. Between 1609 and 1614, King Philip III ordered the expulsion of all Moriscos.
