Rabat – The Moroccan national football team has made a significant jump in the 2017 FIFA World Ranking, which was released on Monday, climbing eight places.

The Moroccan squad is placed 48th in the world and sixth in the African continent. The Atlas Lions now among the top 10 teams in Africa, according to FIFA’s rankings.

The Moroccan team recently won some of its most important World Qualifier games, including those against Gabon and Mali. The team also played a friendly game on October 10 against South Korea in Switzerland, where the Atlas Lions achieved a 3-1 victory.

Tunisia took the lead, ranking 28 in the world and the first in the African continent, replacing Egypt, which is now 30 in the world and second in Africa.

Morocco’s next World Cup opponent, Ivory Coast is now at number 61 globally and 10 in Africa, according to October’s ranking.

In 2016, Morocco placed on the 57th FIFA global rankings in the world and 10th in the African continent.
