Rabat – As the race to win the hosting rights to the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) has begun, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has selected four stadiums to host the competition.
Morocco hopes to beat out Ethiopia and Equatorial Guinea, which submitted their candidacies just a few hours before the deadline.
In a meeting chaired by FRMF President Faouzi Lekjaa on October 3, the Federation selected four stadiums to host the competition: Agadir’s Adrar stadium, Tangier’s Ibn Battouta stadium, Casablanca’s Mohammed V stadium, and Marrakech’s grand stadium.
The three bidders submitted their candidacies after Kenya lost the opportunity to host the competition due to lack of infrastructure, decided at a CAF meeting held in Accra on September 23.
During the FRMF meeting, Morocco’s bid to host the 2026 World Cup and the CAF’s position towards the Moroccan bid were also discussed, according to a press release issued the day afterward by federation.
In September, Ahmad Ahmad, the CAF president announced the organization’s support for Morocco’s candidacy to host the 2026 World Cup.
