Rabat – Morocco’s international player, Achraf Hakimi, has become the first Moroccan to score for Real Madrid after he netted an outstanding goal against Sevilla on Saturday.
As Real Madrid had to play without some of its key stars, the 19-year old star did not make their absence noticed as he delivered a great performance throughout the match.
Saturday’s match against Sevilla was played without Daniel Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos and Casemiro. Some of them were ruled out due to injuries, while others missed the match due to suspension.
Hakimi, who also plays for the Moroccan national football team, took to his Facebook on Saturday to express his happiness over his first goal for Real Madrid.
“A match that I will never forget! this is my first goal for Real Madrid and a big win for the team. I am very happy,” wrote the Moroccan star.
The game finished with a 5-0 victory for Real Madrid. The team is placed third in La Liga with 31 points, behind Valencia (34 points) and Barcelona, which leads la Liga standing with 36 points.
Hakimi is very proud of being able to play with one of the best football teams in the world. In October the youngster told beIN Sports that “I am very happy to play with the best team in the world,” said Hakimi. He also expressed his gratitude to Los Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane for selecting him to play decisive games in La Liga.
“I am very happy for the trust I was given by our coach and with all that is happening with me.”
The footballer has delivered a great performance with the Atlas Lions during the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers and has big chances to be among the players who will represent Morocco in the World Cup next summer.
The Moroccan team is set to play its first game on June 15 against Iran. The Atlas Lions were placed in Group B along with Spain, Portugal and Iran in the World Cup draw, which took place on December 1 in Moscow.
Morocco will play against Portugal on June 20, while the battle against La Roja will take place on June 25. After the draw, Hakimi took to his Twitter account, where he addressed a tweet to Spanish teammates.
“We are going to Russia Amigos,” wrote the footballer, tagging Real Madrid’s Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo, and his Spanish teammates: Marco Asensio, Dani Carvajal and Nacho.
