AS FAR qualified for the CAF Champions League group stage after defeating Horoya AC 3-0 in the second leg on Saturday. The Moroccan side won 4-1 on aggregate.
The match started slowly, with AS FAR struggling to create chances. Misplaced passes and long balls were easily cleared by Horoya’s defence. Ait Ouarkhane missed a one-on-one in the 10th minute after a defensive error by Salif Coulibaly.
AS FAR increased pressure, and Rabie Hrimat scored a penalty in the 40th minute following a handball in the box. The goal gave AS FAR a 1-0 lead at half-time.
Horoya were reduced to ten men in the 23rd minute after Mamady Mara received a red card for a dangerous tackle on Ait Ouarkhane. The visitors went down to nine men in the 80th minute when Amadou Ajibo received a second yellow card.
AS FAR extended their lead in the 70th minute through an own goal by Ibrahima Khabba, who miscontrolled a cross from Youssef El Fahli. Jamal Ech-chamakh scored a long-range goal in stoppage time to make it 3-0.
The Askaris controlled the game throughout and did not allow Horoya any clear chances. The win confirmed their place in the group stage of Africa’s top club competition.
