Rabat – The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert warning of locally heavy thunderstorms, snowfall, and strong wind gusts expected across several Moroccan provinces on Sunday and Monday.
According to the DGM, locally heavy thundery showers ranging between 30 and 50 millimeters are forecast from Sunday at 12:00 p.m. until Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the provinces of Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Ouezzane, Sidi Slimane, Taounate, Ifrane, Al Hoceima, Beni Mellal, Taza, Khenifra, Chefchaouen, Tangier-Assilah, and Larache.
During the same period, additional provinces are expected to record rainfall totals between 15 and 25 millimeters.
These include Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Skhirate-Temara, Sale, Rabat, Khemisset, Fahs-Anjra, Mohammedia, Mediouna, Nouaceur, Azilal, Rehamna, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Khouribga, Berrechid, Benslimane, Tetouan, M’diq-Fnideq, Moulay Yacoub, El Hajeb, Meknes, Settat, Casablanca, and Fquih Ben Salah.
The DGM also warned of snowfall in mountainous areas, with accumulations ranging from 10 to 30 centimeters above 1,500 meters in altitude.
Snow is expected from Sunday at noon to Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the provinces of Azilal, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Ifrane, Al Haouz, Boulemane, Khenifra, Chichaoua, Taroudant, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Beni Mellal, and Tinghir.
In addition, strong wind gusts of 70 to 75 kilometers per hour are forecast on Sunday between 12:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. in the provinces of Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Taroudant, Sefrou, Khenifra, Midelt, and Ouarzazate.
Authorities have urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly in mountainous and flood-prone zones.
