Rabat – Morocco’s RS Berkane (RSB) has qualified to the CAF Confederation Cup final after defeating Tunisia’s Club Sportif Sfaxien (CSS) on aggregate (3-2) in the second leg of the semi-finals on Sunday, May 5.
RSB lost the first leg of the semi-finals match in Sfax 2-0 on Sunday, April 28.
The Moroccan club surprised its Tunisian opponent by launching several consecutive attacks since the first minute of the match. This heavy pressure caused Tunisian players to lose focus and control of the match. At the sixth minute of the match, a Tunisian player tripped Moroccan player Hamada Laachir inside the penalty area, prompting the referee to signal a penalty kick.
The penalty kick was converted by Berkane’s striker Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba.
Only 11 minutes after, the Moroccan side scored the second goal from a beautiful free-kick before adding the third goal at the 31st minute of play. This score was enough RS Berkane to secure its ticket for the final.
In the second half, the Moroccan side appeared more determined to keep the score than adding more goals. Though the Tunisian side improved its performance in the second half, they were unable to create clear scoring opportunities.
Berkane will now face off against the winner of the second semi-finals match between Egypt’s Zamalek Sporting Club and Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive du Sahel, scheduled for 7 p.m. (GMT).
