Rabat – The fan, who was watching the Morocco-Benin match at a cafe in Khenifra, lost consciousness when the Beninese scored against Morocco in the 53rd minute of play.

The 68-year-old supporter was urgently carried to Khenifra’s regional hospital. Unfortunately he died in the ambulance en route.

The fan’s death came as Morocco lost to Benin at Cairo’s Al alam Stadium, in a match for the knockout stages of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).

Benin’s Squirrels scored first in the 53rd minute, followed by the Lions in the 75th minute thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri.

A few minutes from the final whistle, Hakim Ziyech missed a penalty that could have propelled Morocco into the quarterfinals.

With a tie, the two teams faced each other in shoutouts. Benin scored 4-1 and the Moroccan Lions were eliminated from the tournament.
