Rabat – Sevilla FC’s Sporting Director, Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, known as Monchi, told reporters that Moroccan international player Youssef En-Nesyri “has potential and hasn’t reached his limits just yet.”

Monchi made the remarks at a press conference on Monday, January 20, at the official announcement of the club’s newest member.

“We have made an investment which we deemed to be necessary, by evaluating what the player can offer us and not just how much he costs. We’ve invested in a striker who fits in with the manager’s style of play. Whether he’s cheap or expensive, only time will tell,” Monchi added.

“The objective was that, counting on the few departures, that someone would come in who was ready to play immediately. He’s a player that fits the criteria of what the manager wanted,” he outlined.

Speaking about En-Nesryi’s first training session with the team, he added: “On Saturday he showed only a small part of what he’s capable of in the few minutes he played at the Bernabéu. He was our main target since we sat down with Lopetegui.”

“The profile of the player we were looking for is right here,” the coach emphasized.

Although rumors are circulating that the Spanish team plans to bring in more new players, Monchi explained that “With the incorporation of En-Nesyri, this position is now covered; however, we won’t be turning our back on the market. We will continue to go quietly about our work, but we’re not ruling out the option of bringing anyone in for whatever position of the pitch it may be.”

The Moroccan international joined FC Sevilla on Thursday, January 16 for a fee of €20 million. His contract will terminate on June 30, 2025.

“My aim is to score goals and work hard, that’s the most important thing. I think I’m improving every year and I want to continue like that, to wherever I get to,” En-Nesryi said of his future with the team.
