Rabat – Police arrested a man in possession of 9,716 psychotropic pills on Wednesday in Fnideq, 31 kilometers from Tetouan in northern Morocco.
Security services arrested the suspect in a residential area in possession of 9,716 psychotropic pills and 600 grams of cannabis resin, a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has said.
Police have placed the suspect in custody for further investigation to determine the circumstances of the case.
In addition to the Fnideq arrest, police intercepted a man in Fez in possession of 6,490 psychotropic pills.
Security services arrested the 27-year old man on board a coach at a checkpoint in Fez.
Police put the suspect in custody for further investigation.
Last year, Moroccan police seized 1,407,451 psychotropic tablets, including 974,983 ecstasy pills, according to the DGSN annual report.
Police also seized 542,455 kilograms of cocaine, 7,196 kilograms of heroin.
The operations are part of Morocco’s approach against drug trafficking across the country.
