Rabat – Mohamed Dkhissi, the central director of Morocco’s Judicial Police has emphasized the importance of Moroccan intelligence and security cooperation, which contributes to ensuring stability not only in the North African country but in the whole region.

In a recent televised interview on May 16,  Dkhissi spoke about the Spanish-Moroccan and German-Moroccan rifts.

Dkhissi said that suspension of security cooperation with Spain and Germany will surely affect the European countries.

“Morocco, which is a regional power with its position at the international level and at the African level, is not the servant of any country. It is a security institution, a pioneer in the field, it has its place, honors its commitments, and is distinguished by the relevance of its intelligence.”

He explained that the North African country’s security institutions work on the basis of “win-win” cooperation and “reciprocity” whether it is bilateral or multilateral collaboration.

Morocco’s intelligence system and security institutions are recognized worldwide for their professionalism and commitment to ensure stability in the region, the security official explained.

Commenting on the rifts Morocco publicly announced with both countries, Dkhissi said he is not a diplomat but all institutions in the country should abide by its sovereign decisions.

He said that Morocco’s statements regarding relations with Spain and Germany were clear.

“Everyone should respect the sovereign decisions of Morocco.”

On May 6th, Morocco recalled its ambassador to Germany, Zouhour Alaoui, citing several reasons.

Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the decision which comes in response to “Germany’s exacerbate hostile acts” against Morocco’s higher interests, including its sovereignty over Western Sahara.

The ministry said Berlin has not “distanced itself from its destructive attitude” regarding the Sahara conflict.

Following the US proclamation recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, Germany said it was “surprised” by the decision of former US President Donald Trump.

Germany’s reactions to the US proclamation in addition to other positions the European country adopted recently did not go unnoticed in Morocco. In addition to its decision to recall the Moroccan ambassador, Morocco’s foreign ministry also announced the suspension of all contact with Germany’s embassy in Rabat.

In addition to Germany, Morocco also expressed a firm stance regarding Spain’s decision to host Brahim Ghali, the Polisario leader, for hospitalization in Spanish territories.

Morocco expressed astonishment regarding the Spanish decision, asking for clarification regarding its “unexplained” move despite the legal actions filed against the separatist leader.

With Spain insisting that the decision is for “humanitarian reason,” Morocco maintains that Madrid should still issue a “satisfactory” response.
