Rabat – In April, Morocco’s manufacturing industries, excluding petroleum refining, registered a 0.6% price increase across the board, compared to March 2021.
Morocco’s High Commission for Planning (HCP) has published the latest data from its Industrial, Energy, and Mining Production Index (IPPIEM), tracking the price variations of Morocco’s various industries, between April and May of this year.
According to a briefing note on its index for April, the textile industry saw the highest price hike, recording a 3% growth compared to March, followed by Morocco’s chemical industry, which saw a 2.5% price growth for the same period.
Morocco’s various food industries, the metal products manufacture (except for machinery and equipment), information, equipment, and electronic products manufacture, and optical products industries all recorded a 0.5% price growth compared to March.
The furniture manufacturing industry and the clothing industry experienced a 0.6% and 0.7% price hike respectively.

In comparison, prices in the metallurgy sector fell by 1.3%, while the prices for the “manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products” fell by 0.2%. “Woodworking and manufacture of wood and cork products’” prices saw a 0.8% decrease in April compared to the previous month.
According to the same data, producer price indices for “mining and quarrying,” “electricity production and distribution,” as well as “water production and distribution” remained stable throughout April.
Most other price changes were either insignificant or affected sectors that make up a minor part of Morocco’s industry.
Overall, the Moroccan price indices have remained stable this year. The hike of 0.6% between March and April is comparable to the rise in prices between January and February of this year, which recorded an overall 0.3% increase.
