Morocco Announces Squad for Ghana, Burkina Faso Friendly Games

Rabat – Vahid Halilhodzic, Morocco’s national football team coach, announced today the official squad list for the upcoming two friendly matches against Ghana and Burkina Faso.

These friendly games are part of the Atlas Lions’ preparations for the African qualifiers for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The first game against Ghana is set to take place on June 8. Four days later, on June 12, the Atlas Lions will face Burkina Faso. Both games will take place at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The squad list includes 26 players who will take part in training sessions between May 30 – June 13.

The recent group named by the Bosnian coach includes a name that will show up for the first time in Morocco’s squad list, Ilias Chair, the attacking midfielder for the English club Queens Park Rangers.

The list saw also the return of Jawad El Yamiq and Samy Mmaee for the national team.

The list also included six names from the Moroccan league.

Goalkeepers:

Anas Zniti (Raja Casablanca); Monir El Kajoui (Hatayspor/Turkey); Reda Tagnaouti (Wydad Casablanca); Yassine Bounou (Sevilla FC/Spain).

Defenders:

Achraf Hakimi (Inter Milan/ITA); Achraf Lazaar (Watford/ENG); Adam Masina (Watford/ENG); Ayoub El Amloud (Wydad Casablanca); Ghanes Saiss (Wolverhampton/ENG) Jawad El Yamiq (Real Valladolid/Spain); Nayed Aguerd (Rennes/FRA); Samy Mmaee (Ferencváros/Hungary); Sofian Chakla (Getafe/Spain).

Midfielders:

Adel Taarabt (Benfica/POR); Aymen Barkok (Eintracht Frankfurt/GER); Ilyas Chair (Queens Park Rangers/ ENG); Selim Amallah (Standard Liege/BEL); Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina/ITA); Yahya Jabrane (Wydad Casablanca).

Forwards:

Achraf Bencharki (Zamalek/EGY); Ayoub El Kaabi (Wydad Casablanca); Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea FC/ENG); Munir El Haddadi (Sevilla FC/Spain); Soufiane Rahimi (Raja Casablanca); Yousef En-Nesyri (Sevilla FC/Spain); Zakaria Aboukhlal (AZ Alkmaar/ Netherlands).

The federation of Football Association (FIFA) ranked the Moroccan team 34th globally and fifth in Africa in its latest ranking released May 27.
