It appears Spanish football club Sevilla and its Moroccan striker will not part ways this summer after all. Despite being courted by many “big” European clubs, Youssef En-Nesyri has said he will stay at Sevilla for next season.

This latest twist in En-Nesyri’s “will he wont’ he” saga is reportedly due to the Moroccan player’s willingness concern for his professional growth.

En-Nesyri has far authored 24 goals in 51 appearances – Sevilla is playing its last game of the season at 8 pm tonight – in all competitions this year, and the player insists he wants to continue his professional progression at Sevilla.

Having earned the trust of the Sevilla coach, Julen Lopotegui, and the technical staff at Sevilla, En-Nesyri wants to stay to further his standing with the Spanish club while becoming an even better player in the process.

With his increasing playing time at Sevilla and the Spanish team’s suitable tactical setup for the intense sprints and aggressiveness that define his style of play, the Moroccan appears to think he can excel beyond his impressive statistics this season to become a more complete, reliable goal-scorer and team  player.

“We think he can continue to progress, and what better place than Seville,” En-Nesyri’s agent is reported to have told Spanish media ABC earlier this week.

The news of En-Nesyri’s decision to prolong his stay at Sevilla comes just a week after Spanish sports outlet Marca reported that the Moroccan player could leave Spain this summer. Sevilla, Marca said, would be willing to sell its Moroccan striker for €50 million.

While Sevilla paid €20 million to sign En-Nesyri, the player’s brilliance this season means his market value has jumped. The Moroccan striker’s market value now oscillates between €50 and 70 million, according to the International Center for Sports Studies.

But it appears none of the clubs vying to sign the Moroccan is willing to pay beyond €30-40 million. This could mean that while Sevilla’s and En-Nesyri’s decision to prolong their adventure is sincere, a contributing factor could be the fact that none of the player’s suitors were willing to pay the Spanish club’s asking price.

The COVID-crisis has been particularly ruinous to football clubs’ finances, making many – if not all – clubs reluctant to spend huge sums in this summer’s transfer window when unsure as to whether the investment will pay off.

But should En-Nesyri maintain – or surpass – his current level and statistics next season, his price tag will definitely be much higher and most suitors will have no qualms against paying big for a player they may see as a must-have.
