Rabat – The British exploration and production company SDX Energy has completed drilling its initial three wells for the year in Morocco’s northeastern Gharb Basin.

The three wells represent the company’s initial phase of its 2021 drilling campaign, which will see the completion of five wells in total by the end of 2021. SDX operates in the Gharb Basin area, where it is directly liable for 75% of the basin’s working interest.

“The OYF-3, KSR-17 and KSR-18 wells in Morocco were all commercial successes, and OYF-3 and KSR-17 are already connected and producing into our infrastructure,” said SDX CEO Mark Reid in a press release.

With the KSR-18 well to be connected within the next two weeks, the company will see an additional 1.5 to 1.6 billion cubic feet of reserves, which have met SDX Energy’s estimates, Reid noted.

SDX Energy spudded the OYF-13 well on April 30, reaching a depth of 1,183 meters by May 11. The company started digging the KSR-17 well on May 13, reaching a total depth of 1,848 meters on May 27. Both of the wells have been tested and successfully connected to the company’s infrastructure.

SDX completed the initial phase when it started drilling the KSR-18 well on May 30, reaching a total depth of 1,905 meters on June 14. According to the press release, the company expects to begin its second phase of drilling between September and October 2021.

“This gross 139 billion cubic feet prospective target, which has a 33% chance of success, has the potential to significantly transform the resource profile of the Company,” added Reid, noting that its a “very busy and exciting period of activity.”

SDX Energy experienced unexpected success in 2020 when its OYF-2 and BMK-1 wells both found “commercial quantities of gas in excess of pre-drill estimates.”

According to SDX, it runs five separate operations, in Sebou, Lalla Mimouna North, Gharb Center, Lalla Mimouna South, and Moulay Bouchta West. All of the locations are in the Gharb Basin of northern Morocco.
