Denver – Moroccan-Danish relations are set to continue to thrive after a recent visit by Denmark’s Foreign Minister to Rabat. During a joint press conference today, Danish FM Jeppe Kofod noted the “strong and solid” diplomatic relationship that has developed between Morocco and Denmark.
Kofod also expressed his interest in strengthening this relationship as a primary motivator of his recent meeting with FM Bourita. He spoke of being “impressed” with Morocco’s efficient handling of the COVID-19 crisis.
Describing Morocco as an “important partner in the fight against extremism,” the Danish FM congratulated the country for its leadership role in the Global Counterterrorism Forum. Kofod concluded by calling for more cooperation between Copenhagen and Rabat in regulating migration flows between Africa and Europe.
For his part, Bourita also spoke admiringly of his Danish counterpart, stating that Morocco and Denmark are currently “experiencing a positive dynamic on all levels.”
Morocco has seen a growing amount of investments from Denmark, and a crucial part of today’s meeting between the two ministers was their shared desire to cement their countries’ growing economic relationship. Many Danish companies have expressed interest in expanding investments into Morocco, and Bourita’s comments today suggest officials on both sides of the discussion are ready to further this promising exchange.
Morocco and Denmark also pledged to support each other in bids for membership to the UN Security Council. Collaboration between the two countries will also stretch to the fields of migration, counterterrorism, as well as social and environmental justice.
Kofod noted Morocco’s commitment to the UN Population Fund’s goals to both “strengthen access for women and girls in vulnerable situations” and “ensure their socioeconomic development.”
In terms of Morocco’s environmental projects, Kofod argued that the country is at “the forefront” of green energy and holds “enormous potential” for future development.
