Rabat – The Danish Foreign Minister, Jeppe Kofod, shared the agenda of his upcoming visit to Morocco later this week. The agenda includes discussions of job opportunities, trade, and a potential migration agreement.
Kofod turned to Twitter to share how he is “looking forward to good conversations, including with young entrepreneurs and my Moroccan colleague,” referring to Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita. The Danish minister stressed the importance of continuous contribution towards local jobs and education “so that young people can believe in a future in their home country.”
The Danish minister had previously stated that the government is working on ensuring a “more humane” asylum system, noting that the “current system is a failure,” according to the Copenhagen Post.
“The migration pressure on Europe generates huge challenges in Europe, as well as in departure and transit countries,” said the minister, adding that a “stronger international co-operation is required to tackle the reasons for irregular migration.”

The visit comes as part of the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP), which aims to promote collaboration between Denmark and various countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The program’s main focus is on Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia. Morocco joined the partnership program upon its launch in 2006.
According to the program, it aims to “strengthen good governance and ensure economic opportunities,” particularly for the region’s young people and women.
Morocco is involved in several initiatives through DAPP, primarily geared towards promoting equality. There is an ongoing collaboration between Morocco and the Danish Center for Research on Women and Gender (KVINFO), Denmark’s National Organisation of Women’s Shelters (LOKK), along with various non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions.
Bourita and Kofod previously held talks in April 2021, resulting in an agreement on improving bilateral cooperation and establishing a post-pandemic agenda to strengthen “the strategic and priority” cooperation between the two countries.
