Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed today in Rabat Libya’s Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh.
Dbeibeh’s is his first official trip in Morocco after his appointment as a Prime Minister.
For most observers of the MENA region, Dbeibeh’s visit is an acknowledgment of Morocco’s efforts in favor of a lasting solution to the Libyan conflict.

The visit comes a few days after the visit of Aguila Saleh, the speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives.
Saleh visited Morocco on June 24 as part of the continued bilateral dialogue in line with Morocco’s efforts to find a lasting political solution to Libya’s political crisis.

During the visit, Saleh emphasized Morocco’s pioneering role in the mediation process in Libya, saying that Rabat has been a leading advocate of peace and inter-Libyan confidence building.
“Morocco is an influential country. It is also following and monitoring the Libyan conflict without personal interest,” Aguila Saleh during his visit.
The Moroccan FM also renewed Morocco’s support for lasting peace in Libya.

He said that Morocco’s primary concern remains “Libya’s territorial integrity and stability is important for Morocco.”
Both officials’ visit came immediately after the second Berlin conference, which Morocco did not attend despite being invited.
In line with its call for Africa and the Arab world to be more involved in efforts to end the Libyan crisis, Morocco has hosted in recent months several roundtables convening rival Libyan factions for dialogue.
Several Libyan officials emphasized that the dialogue helped with achieving comprehensive agreements that paved the way for both the UN-negotiated ceasefire and the appointment of the current transition government.
