Rabat – New car sales in Morocco saw an 11.8% increase in the first five months of 2021, compared to the same period of time in 2019, according to the latest statistics from the Association of Vehicle Importers automobiles in Morocco (AIVAM).
So far this year, car sales have reached a total of 74,049 units, showing a trend of consistent growth this year, in line with previous figures. By the end of April 2021, growth had reached 11.35% compared to the same period in 2019.
Last year saw COVID-19-induced record-setting losses all across the board, in a variety of sectors. Comparing this year’s performance to 2019 will show a clearer picture of general market trends, in a much broader context than just post-pandemic recovery.

When looking at the various segments of auto sales in Morocco, so far this year, light commercial vehicles (LCV) have seen the greatest proportional growth compared to 2019, with a total of 8,724 units sold, recording an increase of 29.86%.
So far 65,325 new passenger vehicles (PCs) have been registered, up 9.76% compared to the end of May of 2019.
AIVAM indicates that the Dacia brand remains one of the most popular in Morocco when it comes to passenger cars, making up 28.9% of the market share in the country, with 18,882 new registrations since January, representing a growth of 5%.
Renault holds second place in the North African country, with a 13.5% market share, having sold 8,814 units so far this year, while Hyundai, with an 8.02% market share and 5,242 units sold, takes third place.
