Rabat – Morocco’s National Office of Railways (ONCF) and the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) signed an agreement on Monday which offers a new travel card for Moroccans traveling by train for the summer. The partnership aims to support Morocco’s Operation Marhaba, a program that promotes the domestic travel of Moroccans and Moroccans Residing abroad (MREs) during the summer tourist season.
Noting the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a joint press release states “this innovative initiative also supports the development of domestic tourism, which is a major axis of resilience for national professionals after sixteen months of health crisis.”
Ntl9awfbladna, the new card that embodies the agreement, will permit Moroccan travelers to reduce train ticket prices by up to 50%. The card translates to “Let’s meet in our country” in English.
In the press release, the two offices state that 350,000 tickets priced between “49 and 99 DH, which are available only to Moroccans, for travel at low prices to all Al Boraq and Al Atlas destinations.”
Small groups will benefit from “discounts of 50% on Al Atlas trains and 30% on Al Boraq trains for trips with family or friends of 2 to 5 people,” adds the statement.
The offer will be available to Moroccan travelers until September 15, 2021.
Morocco’s ONCF train system extends from as far east as Oujda, and from Morocco’s northernmost city of Tangier to Marrakech 575 kilometers south.

Al Boraq, Morocco’s first high-speed train, operates strictly between Tangier and Casablanca’s Voyageur train station. The train can exceed speeds of 300 kilometers per hour (186 miles per hour).
As Morocco just recently reopened its international borders, the kingdom has seen a spike in tourism and MREs entering the country. In the first week following the opening of international borders, Morocco welcomed 200,000 travelers.
In addition to travel by air and rail, the kingdom has continued to increase its maritime travel routes by connecting the northern ports of Tanger-Med to European destinations such as Italy and France.
