Rabat – Morocco is set to receive three million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine before the end of the month.

Moroccan television channel 2M reported that the new batch of vaccines is set to arrive in Morocco between July 23-31.

In addition to the new shipment, the total number of doses that Morocco received from Sinopharm in the month of July alone has reached 10.5 million doses.

The new doses seek to reinforce Morocco’s vaccination campaign.

The announcement comes as Morocco is also expecting over 300,000 doses of  Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The US administration donated the batch of vaccines to Morocco as part of the COVAX program.

COVAX is a global initiative that seeks to secure COVID-19 vaccines for developing countries.

Morocco is gradually expanding its vaccination campaign, which is reportedly extending its campaign to the population aged between 25 and 30.

Morocco has fully vaccinated 9,797,720 people to date.

The number of people who received the first doses of the vaccine reached 11,748,418.

The North African country ordered over 60 million doses of several COVID-19 vaccines with the aim of vaccinating 33 million people or 80% of the population in order to achieve herd immunity in its vaccination campaign.

Morocco is warning against the deterioration of the epidemiological situation.

Recently, Morocco is recording up to 4,000 COVID-19 cases daily. The increase in the number of cases urged the government to take proactive measures as part of the state of emergency running since March 2020.

About 30 people also died due to COVID-19 on Sunday.

The measures included the ban of gatherings, including weddings.
